Pendulum

Pendulum is an attempt to create a long lasting movement that produces sound. A fan ensures a continues movement of the pendulum, every cycle an extra push. At the same time the movement is captured by a microphone.

Pendulum is one of the characters from a series of cyclically moving sound objects for the performances Hangaar (2010), Utopia (2012) and Ruis! (2015), with motorized circular movements and pendulum movements. Each character is part the visual sound composition with its own rhythm, its own breathing, its own heartbeat. Shown autonomously, they take a place in the environmental sound. The auditory and visual experience usually do not coincide. Light creates dancing shadows.

In 2022 Pendulum has been restored to be shown as autonomous installation.
